Windows 7 Hits The Spot With Industry Analysts

We’ve been hearing about it constantly in recent weeks and now Windows 7 is almost upon us, well it will be on October 22nd and those of you who are totally fed up with Vista will be pleased to know that Microsoft appear to have learned from their mistakes and industry analysts who have been assessing the new Microsoft operating system are giving it the thumbs up.

One such analyst, Charles King from Pund-IT said in a recent report that Windows 7 will fare far better than Windows Vista which is certainly welcome news as Windows Vista didn’t do well at all when it first appeared, in fact it was disastrous.

“Early reports suggest that Ballmer’s baby should enjoy a successful and prosperous life, meaning that Microsoft’s customers and partners and the greater IT marketplace will find much to like and even more to gain in Windows 7,” wrote King.

Another industry Analyst that has given the thumbs up to Windows 7 and to the development process for Windows 7 is Roger Kay of Endpoint Technologies Associates.

Vendors and developers had plenty of time to sort out any problems or compatibility issues due to most of the code having been completed early.

“Most importantly, Windows 7’s feature set was 98 per cent locked early in the process. So no pet features crept in to subsequent builds,” he said.

Kay also commented on the fact that many IT buyers wait a while before upgrading to a new operating system, but will they this time around?

“In the first year, the percentage of commercial buyers who adopt a new operating system usually hovers in the single digits,” Kay said. “This time may well be different, however.”

Well we’ll just have to wait and see.

The launch of Windows 7 is coming just a month after Apple starts to sell the upgrade to their new Snow Leopard operating system meaning we are basically entering an operating system battle for supremacy.

Shortly before Windows 7 arrives, people who buy a new computer running Vista will be offered a free upgrade to Windows 7 but so far we don’t know when that offer will start.

Only trouble is, no matter when that is or how positive reports on Windows 7 are in the meantime, Apple has two main advantages over Microsoft.

Snow Leopard will appear on the shelves earlier than Windows 7 and it will also be cheaper.

It will certainly be interesting to see how it all pans out.
