Why The Global Downturn Benefits The SmartPhone – Netbook consumer

We’re in for a busy time ahead keeping up with all the new SmartPhones, Netbooks, Tablet PCs touch screens and Operating systems that are scheduled for release in the coming months.

Anyone would think the recession was over but maybe this flurry of activity is actually because of the global downturn. Companies just cannot afford to be complacent, they have to appeal to the masses and give us consumers what we want and they’re falling over themselves to do it. I suppose it’s either that or oblivion.

We want devices that are more functional, ultraportable, thinner, easier to operate, faster, lighter, better looking, cheaper, you name it.

We don’t want to carry around a mobile phone and a camera when we can have them combined in one single device so now we see Samsung and Sony both coming out with a 12 megapixel SmartPhones this year.

We want to be able to connect anywhere and everywhere using our Netbooks and other devices so wireless carriers are starting to offer mobile phones and netbooks at reduced rates.

We want operating systems that are compatible and from which we can easily share content but then again we don’t want to pay too much for it so basically it’s a toss up between windows and Android – a mighty battle rages on there.

T Mobile has just announced that they are planning to release a new SmartPhone using the Android Cupcake operating system. We’ve seen plenty of computer companies breaking into the mobile handset market and we are now starting to see mobile phone producers moving into the Netbook and PC market. T Mobile is currently working on new products which include tablet PCs.

Other offerings coming our way include an Android based Netbook by Acer scheduled for October, something we’ve been waiting for so Acer have been quick off the mark there and by the looks of things are keeping the consumer very much in mind for future products.

“Today’s netbooks are not close to perfection at all. In two years, it will all be very different,” Jim Wong, Acer’s global president for IT products, told a news conference at Computex

“If we do not continue to change our mobile Internet devices, consumers may not choose then any more.”

Then also in October we’ve got Microsoft making Windows 7 available to retailers ahead of their previous schedule, no doubt an attempt to pip Acer at the post.

The list goes on and on and so for now at least, the consumer is king.
