What’s On TV Tonight? Caller ID

Attention couch potatoes. There’s no reason to get up when your phone rings. You can now see who is calling right on your television screen as it displays Caller ID information.

Cable TV companies are now offering a service that displays the number of the person calling you on the TV screen and you can buy appliances that also will display that information on the large screen.

Time Warner Cable recently added the feature for subscribers who sign up for both digital cable TV and digital phone service. The cable provider is offering the feature at no extra charge.

“This feature has automatically been added to your digital phone service. You don’t have to do anything but enjoy the convenience that Caller ID on TV provides.

A small Caller ID display appears on the top left-hand corner of viewers’ screens when a phone rings.

A digital remote control enables users to turn the feature on and off and to call up the numbers of the last 10 callers.

Similar Caller ID on TV features are beginning to appear at a smattering of cable providers in the United States.

In addition, some firms are beginning to market devices that provide a display of called numbers on TV displays. The devices range from $20.00 USD for a bare bones device to $120.00 USD for a full-featured model.

Skype calls can be displayed via an mcePhone that operates with Vista and Windows Media Center. Users of the Skype service can also send SMS messages with their remotes.
