Netbooks and eReaders What is it about Netbooks and eReaders?

Netbooks and eReaders are the latest darlings of the computer industry and their popularity with the consumer has taken many people by surprise.

So what is it about Netbooks and eReaders that we love so much?

Well for a start we can take them anywhere and anywhere with us. They are useful and convenient for everyone for both work and leisure and they are easy enough to use even for the complete beginner.

When Asus launched the first ever Netbook in October 2007 other companies laughed at the time but the smile was soon wiped off their faces when all of the first Eee PC Netbooks from Asus were sold out within hours.

That of course sparked a netbook war as all the computer companies bar Apple scrambled to get their own version of the ultraportable device launched on the eager public too, a war that still rages because Netbooks are still selling like mad today.

Then we have the eReaders, those little portable reading devices that are capable of storing hundreds of books and that will deliver an entire novel or magazine or newspaper, or any document for you to read with ease without having to carry around a library. They too have seen a rise in popularity.

Two of the most popular eReaders to date are the Amazon Kindle and the Sony Reader but just like Netbooks, companies are also keen to get their own brand of eReader out to grab a share of the cash. Ok not to the same extent that we’ve seen with Netbooks but hey there’s still time.

We’ve also just heard that Packard Bell is going to be launching an eReader next year; obviously they don’t want to be left out of the growing party of eReaders on the market.

Not only that though, apparently Packard Bell will also be releasing a new Netbook too. No surprise there!

The source of the news on Packard Bell is Actualitte, who say that the first device to arrive on the market will be an 11.6 inch convertible Netbook scheduled for sometime in February 2010 followed by the colour eReader later on in the year around September time.

So how about an eReader Netbook and combined? Well that’s apparently what the enTourage eDGe eReader is destined to be when it finally makes its way to market next year.

Now that’s cool!
