What’s Going On With Sony PS3?

sed to hearing rumours around the web but the latest one doing the rounds is that there are a lot of changes in store for Sony PlayStation 3.

First of all an undisclosed source told VG247 that the PS3’s interface is about to undergo “a huge overhaul” and will be “a complete new system” that will put it in line with the Xbox.

Ok so obviously we are going to be interested in what sort of radical changes there might be.

Details are pretty sparse but apparently there will be a new feature incorporated that will allow players to rate other players. There will also be an option to report players who are disruptive and frustrated players will even be able to submit screenshots of other players dirty deeds.

Other changes include the ability to download patches in the background.

VG247 also claim to know a lot more about what’s in store for the PlayStation 3 but are not going to say.

Patrick Seybold, Sony Computer Entertainment America Director of Corporate Communications in response to the reports said “these rumours are completely untrue” and that “nothing has been announced or confirmed” and basically wrote it off as “wild speculation”.

There’s another Sony rumour doing that rounds and that is that Sony are going to combine the PS3 portable gaming system with a mobile phone. Now that sounds like a good idea.

Sony is facing stiff competition from the likes of the Nintendo Wii and Apple’s iPod and so are putting together a team to look at developing a new product reported Nikkei Business Daily.

Again the sources are undisclosed and again Sony is refusing to be drawn into any kind of confirmation of the reports.

Ok so maybe they have their reasons for staying quiet, maybe the rumours are completely untrue, but one thing is certain and that is that Sony hasn’t done as well as it might have done and need to do something to attract new buyers and keep existing players interested.

In May this year Sony announced their first annual loss in 14 years and apparently do not expect to find themselves in the black any time soon.

So are there massive changes in store? All in all we are none the wiser but there’s no smoke without fire as they say. Time will tell.
