IronKey, who created the world’s most secure USB flash drive, have now gone one step further with the launch of the IronKey Enterprise Server, which follows on from the proven success of the already established IronKey hosted services. Customers can now choose whether to use the hosted service or implement the new Enterprise Server.
With the Enterprise Server, each Enterprise IronKey flash drive is configured by an administrator who will establish security and authorisation policies and download these policies to the flash drive.
What this means is that thousands of IronKey Enterprise USB flash drives are able to be remotely managed and controlled or if there is a breach of security the data on the flash drive can by permanently destroyed using the Silver Bullet Service, which is an advanced management feature of the Enterprise Server.
The implications of this are enormous, particularly when we consider the risks involved if sensitive data gets lost, falls into the wrong hands, is being tampered with, used for fraudulent purposes or if security is compromised by viruses, worms, key loggers and hackers.
With this level of protection it’s no surprise then that the IronKey Enterprise Server solution is backed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) who has to put the safety of sensitive information at the top of their agenda whilst at the same time comply with strict policy regulations.
Yes we know that flash drives being small in size and compact are extremely convenient and can hold a staggering amount of information but we also know how easily they can be lost or stolen and this can present a worrying security risk for government organisations or for that matter any business enterprise.
What we are talking about here is the ability to fully protect these devices through the Enterprise Server by enabling customers to gain control over the flash drives and to make use where necessary of functions like data recovery, password resetting, device tracking and monitoring and even the ability to remotely send a self destruct signal to permanently delete all data on the flash drive.
Clever eh?

Silver Bullet Service without internet connection is not protection.
