When it comes to techies, it’s not always easy to shop for the perfect birthday gift. If you buy your guy a laptop, will it be=2 0the one he had his eye on, or something that leaves him with a kind of a “meh” feeling? If you pick up a few Blu-Rays or video games, will he go nuts for them, or will he politely put it into his DVD shelf and never actually use it?
So with that in mind, we’re going to recommend two awesome birthday gifts that simply cannot disappoint…
LCD Monitors
If your guy is still using a big, beefy CRT monitor that he has to slap on the side to fix, a flat LCD monitor is perfect. If he already has an LCD monitor, get one an inch or two bigger, simple. LCD monitors are pretty much universally compatible, and the prices are getting lower every year. A nineteen inch Dell monitor can be snagged for around $200 at Best Buy where it was several hundred bucks just a few years ago.
They’re always coming out with slimmer, sleeker, more high-def monitors every year, so it’s a good bet your guy’s monitor is already outdated, and he’s already drooling over the new ones.
Wifi Receiver for the Stereo
Here’s a really cool device. Just plug a wifi receiver into your stereo and you can access any of the music on your PC, laptop, iPod, Mac, or anything with wifi and MP3 abilities. To list the great things about this would fill an entire book, so we’ll just list the most important…
1. Throwing away all of your blank CDs.
When you want to listen to the music on your computer on a decent sound system, you usually have to go get some CD-Rs and burn all the songs to them. You get maybe ten to twenty songs per CD, and that’s it. You’re constantly misplacing the ones you forgot to label, forgetting the order of the songs, and what if you only want to listen to one song? Nope, you better burn about twenty, because you don’t get to write more songs onto the CD later.
2. No more wires!
If you don’t want to burn CDs, your other option could be streaming cables across the living room and unplugging them every time you leave the house if they’re connected to your laptop.
3. Watching youtube in surround sound
Kind of a silly thing to do, since most youtube videos are just a guy talking directly into the camera, but still, it’s a cool way to show off!
