It has been a while since we had a new ultrabook to talk about; it seems that the big brands already have their models out. But here is a new one from the Japanese based Tsukumo brand, it is part of the eX.computer note range and it goes under the N140J-710A / E product name. Being an ultrabook this machine has to comply with the rules as laid down by Intel and as such there is a fourteen inch display, Intel Core i7 processor and graphics, as well as the 256 SSD for storage purposes. This is a great little computer and is well worth the $870 price tag.
Here are the main features for the N140J-710A / E laptop; it comes with a 14.1 inch HD anti-glare liquid crystal display LED backlight 1366 x 768. It will be running the latest Windows 8 64-bit operating system and is powered by the Intel Core i7-3537U processor 2.0 GHz to 3.1 GHz with turbo boost with a 4 MB L3 cache. There is support from the Intel HM76 Express chipset and the video graphics will be coming from the Intel HD Graphics 4000 card with main memory share up to 1664 MB. For the memory there is 4 GB of PC3-12800 DDR3 SODIMM and a nice sized 256 GB 3 Serial ATA support mSATA solid state drive (SSD) for storage.
Communications are from the IEEE 802.11 b / g / n Wireless LAN, Bluetooth V4.0 and the RJ-45 port 1000 Base-T/100 Base-TX/10 BASE-T Ethernet LAN. Other features include the built in 1.3 mega pixel web camera, D-Sub15 output terminal, two standard style USB2.0/1.1 ports, a single fast connecting USB 3.0 port and the handy Multi-card reader. As for the size, this ultrabook measures up at around 333 mm (W) x 229.5 mm (D) x 19 mm (H) and weighs in at a light 1.6 kilos with the lithium ion battery in place that Tsukumo say should be offering around six hours of offline power.
Tsukumo Japan has priced the N140J-710A / E to start from a reasonable $870, but remember this is a fourteen inch screen laptop, so it’s going to feel small if the buyer has been used to larger displays.
