Trend Micro Internet Security Anti-Virus For Netbooks On A USB Drive

As sales of Netbooks continue to skyrocket around the world the number of people requiring Internet security is increasing too and Trend Micro Incorporated, a major internet security company, have been quick to offer their solution for Netbooks.

The company have just announced that Trend Micro Internet Security will now be available on USB drives for Netbooks, but only in North America so the rest of us will just have to wait.

“Netbooks are cheaper and more portable than laptops so it’s no surprise the market is becoming one of the fastest expanding PC market categories. With the Netbook market expanding greatly, our partners and customers in North America have asked for a security solution tailored for netbooks,” said Carol Carpenter, vice president of global marketing for Trend Micro consumer business unit. “Now users can install Trend Micro Internet Security on their netbooks and confidently surf online, knowing they are well protected.”

It’s true that Netbooks could potentially be an attractive target for would be hackers. Netbooks are used primarily for accessing the Internet and many people buying them are newcomers to the Internet and might not be fully aware of the risks.

Internet security programmes also take up valuable space and as Netbooks tend to be low on computing power you wouldn’t want to slow it down any more than you have to by installing large space munching programmes.

Netbooks are low in cost too as companies compete to keep the costs down so they might not have the usual array of firewalls and anti-virus tools pre-installed. Even if they do, some people might be tempted to dump them in order to increase the speed of their Netbook. Consequently many Netbooks are probably not adequately protected.

So is there anything exceptional about Trend Internet Security 2009? The straightforward answer is not really, apart from the fact it comes on a USB drive, which of course is highly convenient.

The software provides for the bare essentials of Internet Security and nothing more, but then again some security is better than no security.

Trend Micro claim that the software is easy to use as you just plug it into the USB slot and if autorun is enabled it will load automatically. If it isn’t enabled then you can quickly install it, but probably the most important point is that they also claim that the software will not slow the Netbook down.

The price isn’t bad though at a yearly subscription of $39.95 for a single Netbook.
