Revived by a blockbuster movie franchise and accompanying merchandise, “Transformers” have evolved to be much more than toys.

Take Takara Tomy’s new “Transformers” USB gadgets. They’re compatible with Mac OS X and Windows 2000, XP, Vista and 7.

Autobot Tigatron and his Decepticon counterpart Jaguar (pictured) serve their new Earthling masters as 2GB storage devices, while either Autobot Grimlock or Decepticon Trypticon would make a good laser mouse with 3 buttons and a scroll wheel.

Tigatron is most striking with his black stripes on a white body and green eyes — even if he looks more like one of the “Voltron” lions than a Transformer.

The best part about these little guys? They’re like grown-up versions of those mini-cassette Transformers we played with as kids — Buzzsaw, Laserbeak and Ravage — only more functional. Priced at $42.99 to $59.99 at ThinkGeek, the items are “guaranteed not to attempt to murder anyone or attempt world domination.”
