It seems that no matter where you look there is a manufacturer bringing out a new ultrabook and in this case it is Toshiba with the firms latest Dynabook R542! It qualifies as an ultrabook with Intel CPU, SSD, light and fast starting, but there is one difference here and that is the 21.9 aspect ratio, we see this featured on the new Satellite U845W. So now it seems watching movies on an ultrabook is the next big thing to offer, with the long lasting battery this laptop is using there should be no problems at all.
Let us see what else the Dynabook R542 has on offer! It comes with a smallish 14.4 inch wide screen that offers LCD, high brightness, HD (21:9), LED back light for power saving, a 1792 × 768 of pixel resolutions and there is room for a built in 1.3 mega pixel web camera.
It is going to be powered by the useful 1.70 GHz Intel Core i5-3317U processor up to 2.60 GHz with support from Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 and the Intel HM77 Express Chipset. Other features will include three super fast connecting USB 3.0 ports, LAN (RJ45) output terminal, HDMI out, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, Harman Kardon stereo speakers and SRS Premium Sound 3D,
There is up to 4 GB of DDR3 RAM available and a 500 GB hard disk drive (HDD) with cache support from the 32 GB solid state drive (SSD). This laptop measures up at 20.8 mm (H) × 200 mm (D) x 368.5 mm (W) and it weighs in at just 1.69 kilos with the battery pack that Toshiba say is good for up to eight hours of use.
Toshiba are launching the Dynabook R542 on home ground in Japan next month where it will have a starting price of around $1,800, that is a little bit on the expensive side for a starting don’t you think?
