Toshiba’s new NB200 Netbook or the Dynabook UX as it is called in Japan is the company’s first 10 inch range of Netbooks and they’re looking pretty good.
There are a total of five models on offer in the NB200 series and these are:
1. NB200 – 10G at a cost of £277.39. Comes with Intel Atom N270 processor, 1.6 GHz
2. NB200 – 11L at a cost of £289. Comes with Intel Atom N270 processor, 1.6 GHz
3. NB200 – 11H at a cost of £319. Comes with Intel Atom N280 processor, 1.66 GHz
4. NB200 – 10Z at a cost of £320.87. Comes with Intel Atom N280 processor, 1.66 GHz
5. NB200 – 110 at a cost of £320.87. Comes with Intel Atom N280 processor, 1.66 GHz
All of the NB200s run on Windows XP and the screens are Toshiba TruBrite WSVGA TFT with LED backlight.
They all come with 1024 MB system memory expandable to 2,048, with DDR2 RAM (800 MHz), and 160 GB Hard Disk and carry Intel Mobile Intel GMA 950 Graphics adaptor.
For connectivity you have Wi Fi and Wireless LAN but on the upper three models you also get Bluetooth.
You get up to three and half hours life on the basic model, the 10G, with up to nine hours battery life on all the other models.
An added bonus is the shock protection software which protects them from unexpected falls as it will quickly turn off your hard drive should an accident occur.
Of course there’s the built in camera and microphone along with a stash of ports and interfaces. You can also expect them to come bundled with a whole heap of software that you probably don’t want or need but are getting anyway.
Can’t complain though, according to reviews, the NB200s are nicely built and look more serious than many other Netbooks on the market. They also have good quality metallic silver Chiclet keyboards, so called because the keys look like pieces of chewing gum.
Another attractive key point is that they are virtually fanless so quiet to run, no having to put up with an irritating whirring noise.
With regard to colour, the 10G and 11L come in Cosmic Black, the 11H and 10Z in Satin Brown and the 110 in Snow White.
