Most would agree that Netbooks are now almost an essential secondary device for accessing the web and sending emails, which is probably why sales of Netbooks are skyrocketing. Now Toshiba have added a new mini device to their range, the Toshiba Mini NB200.
Let’s face it, we already have a massive array of Netbooks on the market to choose from, and a new one every week it seems, most with a pretty standard set of specs too, so something has to stand out for us to want to buy any particular one and with the Toshiba Mini NB200 Toshiba are promoting the stylish design.
“The smaller devices are, the more consumers value the design aspect. We very much took this into account; the new Toshiba mini NB200 represents an elegant design statement.” Says Thomas Teckentrup, General Manager, Toshiba Computer Systems Division Europe.
Initially the NB200 will sport a matt finish with a textured 3D design and the first of them will be available in Satin Brown with Snow White and Silky Pink colours following close behind. Later on, although we don’t know when, there will be another version of the NB200 in cosmic black with a glossy finish.
So let’s take a look at the specs and see if the NB200 has anything else going for it.
Well it’s a pretty standard machine really. Netbooks by nature are supposed to be lightweight and this one weighs in at around 1.18 Kg. It has a standard 10.1” widescreen LED backlit display, a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor or a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N280 processor with Intel 945 GSE Graphics Chipset.
You can choose from a 3 cell battery for 4 hours of battery life or a 6 cell battery for 9 hours away from a wall socket.
Connectivity options include Wireless LAN IEEE 802.11 b/g plus integrated Mobile Broadband on some of the models, and of course Bluetooth. It also has 3 USB slots.
The NB200 also has an Energy Star 5.0 rating and that’s about it really as far as the device itself goes.
As for accessories, a new external USB powered SuperMulti Drive for the NB200 will be released at the same time as the NB200. There will also be a new LED projector F10 available for viewing photos or presentations.
Other accessories include a messenger bag and sleeve which will be available in the summer to complement the package.
