The HP Mini 5103 is another tiny and inexpensive netbook in the HP mini range, only this time it is aimed squarely at businesses. While certainly not every business is going to get by with its 10.1 inch screen and choice of Atom processors, those that can are definitely going to be happy with the price tag.
The HP Mini 5103 is the successor to the earlier Mini 5101 and 5102 models, featuring much the same build quality complete with the aluminium and alloy chassis. The form factor of this netbook seems made for business users, with a strong and stylish design in an understated kind of way.
There are some new features however, and a couple of cool options like a solid state disk drive, a capacitive touchscreen display, a choice of resolutions, and a choice of CPUs. This kind of flexibility is rare for such an inexpensive and small netbook, but it is great news for businesses who need to either keep their costs down or have access to particular technology.
The Mini 5103 is a 10.1 inch netbook, with a choice of either a 1.66GHz Atom N455 or a 1.83GHz Atom N475 processor. The memory only goes up to a maximum of 2GB however, although that will probably be enough for most netbook users. The internal drive can either be a 7,200 rpm SATA with 160 or 320GB or space, or a solid state drive with 80 or 128GB.
While the viewing angles are far from spectacular, the screen is vibrant and colourful. Connectivity on the Mini 5103 is also good, with 3 x USBs, VGA, RJ-45, and the regular multi-media connections. The keyboard is well designed, and with 95% of a full-size board – you can’t really go wrong. The keyboard is even spill resistant, a feature you don’t often see on mobile computers at twice this price. The HP Mini 5103 is available in multiple configurations, with prices starting from only $399.
