Any techie will demand constant reliable web access, super fast file download speeds and crystal clear graphics when using their laptops.
If all of that is in place, the only thing that is missing is a strong cup of coffee, on demand I might add, to help us stay awake when working well into the night.
Well here’s a must have gadget that may well sound the death knell for the humble kettle, which incidentally seems positively archaic by comparison.
The Quooker as it is called is basically nothing more than a tap except that this tap does something that no ordinary tap can do. It provides instant boiling water on tap and all you have to do is turn it on.
The tap is connected to a small water tank that is located in a cupboard underneath the sink or worktop, which keeps the water at a constant 100 degrees centigrade.
The questions that most folk will ask are is it safe? Is it more expensive to run? And how much will it cost to buy?
Well the Quooker “comes with a tap which is securely mounted to the worktop, has a child-proof push-and-turn handle and is double walled” says the Quooker website.
“As another safety feature, the water comes out of the tap in a fine spray rather than a solid jet.
“On top of that the tap dispenses no more than 0.5 litres of water per second. If an electric kettle topples over, it spills 1 litre of boiling water in a second, which can cause serious burns” the site says.
So what about the running costs?
According to a story in the Telegraph, Stephen Johnson from Quooker in the UK says “people always overfill a kettle to boil it, and so the running cost of a kettle is more
“Quooker is an on demand system and there is a huge labour saving in terms of time” he adds.
Right I don’t know about you but I’m sold so how much is it going to cost?
You just knew it wasn’t going to be cheap didn’t you. Well if you fancy one and you’ve got a spare £800 then it’s yours.
Quookers have been around for a while but apparently it’s only fairly recently that sales have really started to take off.
I’m surprised there isn’t one in most homes, makes complete sense to me, anything that saves time in the short term and cash in the long term has got to be worth having.
