Gamers have been waiting patiently for Gateway to put out another notebook comparable to their previous notebook the P-7811 FX which was cheap enough in price to attract attention and yet still good enough for a high quality gaming experience.
Now Gateway has launched the P-7808u notebook and it’s worth a look whether you’re a gamer or not.
The P-7808u comes with Windows Vista and is packed with features and specs that will give you decent enough gaming performance and full multimedia experience without actually breaking the bank.
On saying that it is priced higher than previous Gateway models but then again you won’t find many 17” notebooks with similar specs for the same cash.
Ok so there’s something that avid gamers won’t be happy about at all so we’ll get that out of the way first. It is the poor screen resolution which sits at 1,400 x 900 but that’s about the only problem so it’s maybe worth considering that overall it is still not a bad deal when you compare the price with the speeds you get and according to reviews, it performs well despite the low screen resolution.
Now to what you get inside. Well you’ll find a 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 quad processor, 4GB onboard RAM (1066MHz), 500GB (5400RPM) Sata Hard Drive and NVIDIA GeForce 9800M graphics with 1GB GDDR3 Discrete Video Memory and Intel PM45 Chipset. Not bad at all.
Connectivity options include Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, Intel Wi-Fi Link 5100 802.11a/g/Draft-N Wireless LAN. There are plenty of ports including three USB 2.0 ports, VGA connector port, one eSATA port, and a V1.2 HDMI connector port and you also get an ExpressCard 54 slot as well as a 5 in one card reader.
For sound the P-7808u carries a high definition audio 2 channel with built in speakers, and microphone, headphone outputs and inputs.
The P-7808u also comes with 8 x Multi Format Dual Layer DVDRW and DVD RAM with Labelflash Technology. Other features include a 1.3 Megapixel integrated Webcam with built in microphone.
The look of this latest Gateway model is not bad either with its premium design brushed metal keyboard surround. The keyboard is of course full size.
