It does not seem that long ago when Dell were showing off the new design for the small and neat XPS 13, but already it has shown up on the Dell website with a starting price of just under $1,000! This is a smart looking laptop, with a shiny aluminium case and it is thin too at just 0.24 inches at its thinnest point. The XPS 13 is basically Dells entry into the ultraportable market, with a SSD and quick start features.
It is no surprise that the XPS 13 comes with a 13.3 inch high definition (720p) Truelife WLED Display with a 1366 x 768 of pixel resolution and a built in 1.3 mega pixel HD web camera and microphone. The XPS is powered by the 2nd generation of Intel Core i5-2467M processor at 1.60 GHz but with Turbo Boost 2.0 can be up to 2.30 GHz. While the video and graphics are coming from the Intel HD Graphics 3000 card.
The internal is up to 4 GB Dual Channel of DDR3 1333 MHz and for storage there is the light and slim solid state drive (SSD) starting at 128 GB but can go up to 256 GB if required. Other features include the single but fast USB 3.0 port, a standard USB 2.0 with PowerShare and the handy mini display port. When it comes to networking Dell have installed the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 802.11 a/g/n with Intel Smart Connect Technology and there is even Bluetooth 3.0 installed.
This is a slim and light laptop measuring just 0.24 inches to 0.71 inches (6-18 mm) thick, 12.4 inches (316 mm) wide and with a depth of just 8.1 inches (205 mm). It weighs in at 2.99 pounds (1.36 kg) with the 47 WHr 6 Cell Li-Polymer battery that Dell claim is good for up to 8 hours and 53 minutes!
The price of the new Dell XPS 13 starts from $1,000 but can be as high as $1,500
