Thank goodness for laptops eh!

Imagine just a few short years ago when we didn’t have laptops with webcams and Wi-Fi. Hard isn’t it!

Although you´re far...

Yes we’ve come to rely on them as if they are necessary for our very survival and in a way they now are.

Laptops have made a huge difference to our lives, particularly if we are forced into living apart from our families.

One story recently reported by the Oregon based news site “the Bulletin” is a perfect example of how a laptop can make all the difference in the world.

Forty five year old Mike Wulf is currently serving as a medical officer in Iraq with the Oregon National Guard’s 41st Brigade Combat Team.

He took along his laptop so that he could more easily keep in touch with his family back home in Bend says the report. Every Sunday he logs on and chats to his kids, 11 year old Caitlin and 6 year old Luke.

Not only do they get to “see” their father on a regular basis, I mean five months is a long time in a child’s life, he is able to stay up to date with their progress at school and all the things that are important, in a way that not so long ago would have been unthinkable.

“It’s great to see the excitement in their faces when they tell me about what they did that day,” he said.

Surely it must make life a little bit more bearable for those who are forced into spending extended periods apart.

“This is a super time in history for communicating with soldiers over there,” Chris Wulf said.

“It’s the first time in history we can communicate so frequently and with so many methods. … It gives you so much peace. You can say, ‘OK, things are good.’”.

A similar tale also appeared in the Kansas based Wichita Eagle but there are countless other stories too.

Bob Handshy is able to keep in touch with his wife Rebekah and his children even though they are almost two thousands miles apart. Once a week they gather round the computer to have a video chat together reports the Wichita Eagle.

Living apart isn’t easy but with a laptop the pleasure of just being able to discuss mundane things like the weather and what’s going on at home and to be able to see your family on the laptop screen is there whenever you want it.

Yes, laptops are essential these days.
