TGI Friday’s Fried Mac and Cheese

T.G.I. Friday'sToday I went out to lunch with my lady and we went to T.G.I. Friday’s.

I’ve been seeing commercials for the fried mac and cheese and wanted to try it.

Wow. It was really good. Has anyone else in blog land tried this yummy appetizer?

I later asked the waiter if he knew how they made it and when he came back, there was a story of oompah-loompahs making magic mac and cheese balls. Totally funny.

The waiter rocked. His tip was more then the whole check just because he had such a good personality.

I’ve not… but they have deep fried green beans, too. They are almost like french fries (probably as healthy, too!).

My kids are obsessed with these. I’m trying to find the recipe so they wont keep bugging me to go there just for the mac and cheese balls. I personally didn’t like them :(

I have also tried them and tried to recreate them at home (and have come close!). First step is to make your favorite mac and cheese recipe. I take 1 lb. cooked macaroni and melt together 2 lbs Velvetta (it sounds like a lot, but it’s correct!) 1 stick of butter and 1 cup of milk. Once all melted mix in cooked macaroni. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Let cool completely and I also refrigerate it because I think it makes it easier to work with. I cut the macaroni into 1-1/2 inch squares. Coat each square in flour, then an egg and milk/water mixture, then in bread crumbs. Fry! A great version is to add cooked chopped bacon to the macaroni before baking.
