A revolution in teaching is about to go underway following the release of a new wireless audio transmitter in the classroom. It seems long overdue, especially for the poor teachers who stand in front of a room of screaming kids all day long, but finally they now have a way to make themselves heard.
Revolabs, a specialist in wireless audio products, has just released news of a new amplification system for the classroom. But this goes way beyond a simple microphone. Instead, this one incorporates wireless technology to get an ultra-crisp sound, so that wherever the teacher is standing or walking, they will be heard by the students.
With all the other trials that come with teaching, getting heard should be the least of a teacher’s problems. But unfortunately this is not the case. If I can remember rightly, on some days even getting heard, let alone being taken any notice of, could be a real effort on the part of the teacher.
Things like bad classroom acoustics, badly-situated classrooms (such as those positioned right next to busy roads), and of course pupils with hearing difficulties, will make the new system truly revolutionary in the classroom. I don’t know whether they can turn the system up to shout at particular students with greater emphasis, but this could be a feature of the next upgrade.
Going by the full name of the Revolabs Classroom(TM) Wireless Amplification System, it is just 2.5 inches high and one inch across, and as it only weighs a few ounces it can be clipped onto a shirt or blouse and then forgotten about. On top of that, each charge provides eight hours of talk time, meaning it will last right through the longest teaching days.
So this device, albeit not one that will guarantee any teacher immediate success in the classroom, will go a long way to at least getting the students to hear what they have to say. Surely teachers across the world will now just be hoping for a device which gets students to actually take in what they are being taught, and their job will be made a lot easier.
