HP have brought out a new version on the Mini 110 and Mini 210, it is the Mini 1104 and has been developed with business and education users in mind, it is slightly more expensive than its close relations, but it does come with a whole host of premium features such as the Trusted Platform Module 1.2 embedded security chip.
Netbook
Just when the netbook market is beginning to stabilise following the introduction of the tablet, it seems that for some manufacturers such as Dell, the age of the netbook is over and so it’s goodbye to the Dell Mini.
The convertible tablet is strange machine that for some reason struggles in the market, it is neither a netbook or a tablet, but being both it has a foot in two camps and sometimes this is concept that does not work very well. However Gigabyte are pulling out all of the stops with this next generation convertible tablet device by giving a couple of these away to their Facebook fans, simply visit the page, like the brand and fill out a survey to be in with a chance of winning.
The China based computer maker Lemote, has come up with the 10.1 inch Yeeloong 8101_B and 8.9 inch Yeeloong 8089_B netbooks, it is claimed that these are the first netbooks to offer complete free software throughout to produced a low power and low cost netbook suitable for a range purposes. That could be true because these machines have both been designed and built by the OEM manufacturer Quanta Computer, yet the price may not be as low as you might expect for a netbook that has been designed on a budget!
Netbooks appear to holding their own ground against the tablet device, such as those made by Apple, Samsung and Sony; it seems that new of the netboooks demise are not true in fact. The Japan based NEC, are currently working on a small and light netbook with a seven OLED touch screen display, of course it is early days for this device and who knows how the MGX will evolve over the next couple years.
There has been a move recently to produce the so called “Ultrabook” these are in fact laptops that weigh less than three pound, have to be slim at under 0.8 inches thick and must come in at under $1,000! This is a challenge that the likes of Acer, Asus, Lenovo and Toshiba have taken up very successfully.
