Well it’s been a few days since I released SRG Clean Archives version 3.0 and my brain has been going non-stop thinking about what features can be added, how it can be tweaked and optimized more.
Thanks to the WordPress community for the huge amounts of comments, suggestions and emails on what could be added for new features or ways to improve the plugin.
With that being said, I figured it was time for a “road map” post to let you know what’s to come for the future development of the plugin.
Upcoming features in the next release will be:
- Adjust the archive output from the plugin admin page (H1, H2, Strong, etc.)
- Toggle on and off display of RSS post/comment subscribe for each post
- One click auto addition of the plugin page
- Output Caching (to help with load times)
I received a great suggestion from Ajay D’Souza from his review on the Weblog Tools Collection Blog which was to make an option to “Display only the months and when the user clicks on it, the posts of that month will be loaded”. This is now on the top of my To-Do list.
One of the main goals is to have everything controlled from the plugin admin page and make it very easy for people to use this plugin and with the above upcoming features, that’s one more step in the right direction.
So these are just a few of the things to come in the next major release, so if you have any ideas or suggestions to improve the plugin, let me know.
Thanks to everyone for your continued support and use of SRG Clean Archives.

Hey Justin. Thanks for your continued support and use of the plugin.
Hi Sean,
Got it working on my blog finally. One user-request: it would be nice if you could set the separator behind the day (default is : ) too.
Good to hear you got it working Chantal.
I’ll add your user request to the plugin wish list.
Sounds like a great set of plans Sean. I knew I turned it over to the right guy
I think it is great and I have added it to my site where it works a treat. Or almost does
The thing is: if you write a lot of posts you wil end up with a page a mile or two long. I understand the great suggestion about showing only the months and then expanding them, but I have an alternative that I would like as an additional option.
It would be great to be able to place a [more...] at a specified interval of every [X] months. An infrequent blogger could end the page each year; a more more frequent blogger every quarter; and the really verbose every month.
Would that be possible to implement?
Cheers, and keep up the good work!
Hi Owen. Thanks for stopping by and your use of my plugin.
I completely understand your thoughts on having an archive list that’s a mile long with hundreds and thousands of posts, however the 4.0 release which will be out sometime today solves this problem.
Your idea of a ‘more’ link is interesting and I’ll give it some thought after the masses try out the new SRG Clean Archives 4.0 version.
