Heads up everyone, I just released SRG Clean Archives version 3.0.1 which is a very important bug fix and performance release, so if you downloaded 3.0 between yesterday and today, please go grab the latest release right away.
So what was fixed some of my fellow geek readers might be asking?
Well there was an error where unnecessary database queries were being made. That’s now fixed.
There was also a few other minor code optimizations.
I’m still working on version 3.1 which will be coming soon with some other added features but for now, just this bug release. Enjoy and thank you for your continued support.

I made sure the other version was removed first.
Alas, this one simply doesn’t work. It does nothing.
I set it up same as the other, with a page containing your %%srg clean archives%% code.
Peace,
Gene
That is really strange Gene as I’m running the exact version now I have for download.
There was in fact a bug which is now fixed, so this sounds like something specific to your install on your site.
I’m willing to assist you getting it going on your site or to see what’s going wrong.
You have my email. Feel free to use it or come to my site and help out.
My intention, obviously, is to remove the Fancy Archives plug-in and use yours instead, pointing to a second page from the sidebar with the Archive content.
My Webmaster went on a 1 month hiatus in January and never returned, so I’ve been struggling through all this myself, and I welcome your assistance.
Peace,
Gene
For those of you following, it was an issue with the WordPress Visual Editor being turned on.
The plugin is now fixed so it works with the Visual Editor on or off.
If anyone still has an issue, use my contact form and let me know.
Downloaded and installed without any problems.
Hi Jason. Thanks for your support of the plugin. I’m glad it’s working for you.
Be sure to tell all your friends about it
Metafluence archives…
Just installed the SRG Clean Archives to create my own archives.

Hi Sean,
I use the XV theme which has version 1.5 included. I have tried to upgrade to 3.0.1, but it doesn’t show anything.
The plugin is called thru an extra template by . This works with version 1.5.
Any ideas?
Hi Chantal. I’m not familiar with the XV theme but seeing you mention version 1.5 of the plugin, that’s a pretty old version and a lot has changed with it, especially since the 3.0 release.
With the 3.x.x series, you no longer need an extra template to use the plugin. Just go into your archives page via the dashboard, press edit and select the default page template and resave the page. All of this is detailed in the readme.txt file too.
However, I looked at your site and it seems you have it working now.
If you need any other help, contact me via my contact form and I’d be happy to help.
Hi Sean,
Yes I reverted to the old version. I will try to get 3.0.1 working on my test server.
I just wanted to deliver a word of thanks to Sean, for spending lots of time working with me to make this plug-in work.
It’s now properly installed on my dual-WP 2.2 installation.
Peace,
Gene
Hey sorry, I am very new to wordpress and I have a question about your plugin…
Most of it looks great, except I cannot get that bit of css (the postspermonth class) to take effect. I substituted the header h2 which worked perfectly in srg_clean_archives.php, but there is some extra space between the titles of posts and I’d like to get rid of it.
My style.css has been working fine otherwise, but I tried your sample code and nothing happened despite setting crazy margins/padding. Is there any way to fix this?
@Gene: You’re quite welcome. Glad we got it resolved. I’ll check in with you tomorrow on your widget stuff.
Hi Faye,
What is the URL of your website so I can check out your style sheet?
I’m thinking there might be a conflict in the CSS with your specific theme but I need to view the site first to be sure.
Let me know and I’ll help you get it fixed up.
I’ve also emailed you.
Thank you. Works great!
[...] SRG Clean Archives – If you’ve been looking for a simple and tidy solution for creating an archive page for your blog, look no further. Just as the name of the plugin suggests, the outputted page is very clean and can even be styled with CSS if you’d like. You can even put it in your sidebar, though I wouldn’t advise doing that unless you want to end up having a really long sidebar [...]
Never mind, I figured it out
it was a conflict in the css. Thanks for your fast response, Sean!
Hi. I was wondering if you could direct me to a solution here.
I’ve been using the clean archvies plugins since the earlier version. (there were great!) I recently upgraded to WP2.2, and changed the theme to the “dark” theme. I then downloaded clean archves 3.0.1, activate it. I wrote the %% code, but it does nothing. You can see the source on the Archives page, and notice that nothing is coming out.
The dark theme did come with its own archves template, with conditonal tag to use “Extended Live Archives” else get_archvies.
Any idea for a solution?
Thanksa
Hi Toru.
Go into your WordPress dashboard and select edit page for your archives page. Be sure to select the default template from the page template on the right side.
That should fix you up.
Thanks Sean.
It worked! Never thought that could be the cause.
Hi Toru. Glad it was an easy fix for you. Thanks for your use and support of the plugin.
