Valentine’s Day is nearly upon us once again so no doubt lovers across the world will be seriously thinking about sending their significant other, messages of undying love and devotion.
With just about everyone owning a mobile phone or even two these days, there is every chance that lovebirds will attempt to call their sweetheart to whisper sweet nothings or send a romantic text. Nothing wrong with that, or is there?
According to a recent survey conducted by Kelton research on behalf of SpinVox, the voice to content messaging leader, we all rely on mobiles to keep our love lives alive but we are sadly lacking when it comes to phone etiquette.
I mean do you always pick up the phone the instant your other half calls? Apparently 28% of us expect our partner to do just that, and yet nearly a quarter of us don’t even bother to pick up the phone even when we know our loved one is calling. So what do we do then?
Invariably we will attempt to leave a voice message instead. Ooops, problems again! Around 27% of us will call back without even bothering to listen to the message so lovingly left in our voicemail.
Other complaints revealed by the survey include calling too often (can be a real nip that one, no one likes a cling on), not calling often enough (warning signs of a dying relationship I guess), not leaving enough information, or leaving messages that are far too long (no wonder we don’t listen to them) or that other biggie, texting other people whilst our partner sits there with a face like thunder twiddling their thumbs.
People with kids are even worse in the mobile romance department, 40% expect their partner to always pick up the phone, 35% phone back without listening to voice messages, and 30% don’t bother to pick up the phone even when they know their partner is calling.
What a considerate bunch we are! No point in getting holier than thou and generating a gender war either, it would appear men and women are equally as bad.
So back to Valentine’s Day and that romantic message! Ok for some lucky folks the special words might flow easily from their heart to their lips or to their finger tips but let’s face it, for many it’s going to be a bit of a hassle, a necessary chore to be carried out purely to avoid the verbal diarrhoea that will follow if they don’t.
Now at last we have a solution.

You can send your carefully chosen words via SpinVox, hell go for it, why not send a poem. “With SpinVox every spoken message you leave on your sweetheart’s cell phone can turn into a written poem he or she can save and treasure forever” says Christina Domecq, CEO and co-founder of SpinVox.
Yep that’s right; you can give your digits a break. All you have to do is speak and your words will be conveniently converted into text and delivered quickly and efficiently via email or SMS.
One problem! You still have to think of something to say don’t you, and that’s the hardest bit. Fortunately there are suggestions.
If you really can’t think up the right words for your poem you can use poetry engine software to do it for you – just Google it as they say.
Or, you can steal a line or two from several different poems and string them together to create your own.
You could always go the whole hog and grab an entire poem and pass it off to your nearest and dearest as yours and written especially for them. A word of warning though, only if was written before the 20th Century otherwise you might be breaching copyright laws and you are in enough trouble as it is.
If you’re brave enough you could even consider turning up at your partner’s work to deliver your carefully crafted poem in person. Just be prepared for the hysterical laughter as you find yourself pouring out your heart in front of highly amused and utterly merciless colleagues. It would be certainly be memorable but it kinda spoils the effect.
SpinVox might have the answer to most of our communication hassles but there is something it can’t do. It won’t stop you from inadvertently sending your special valentine poem or your saucy secrets to the wrong person, like your boss or even worse, your mother in law. Perish the thought.
