PINoptic have come up with an innovate solution to increase mobile phone security by allowing you to log in to your mobile phone using what is effectively a picture-based password which is reckoned to be 37 times more secure than most other options available at the moment. (Although we cant verify these claims) It does look like a vaiable way forward , but judging by PINoptics website they look like they need a partner to help take them to market..
These days it seems that just about everyone has at least one mobile phone and as a result of an explosion in technology, mobile phones are simply no longer the simple pieces of equipment they used to be. Remember the massive bricks we carried around just to make a phone call?
Most mobiles nowadays have many additional features and the so called SmartPhones are mobiles that offer advanced functions like email and internet capabilities with some operating just like a mini computer complete with software applications, massive amounts of storage space and more or less full PC capability, all of which you can carry around in your pocket.
This means of course that not only are they easily lost or stolen, they can also contain an enormous amount of personal data and highly sensitive information and as such, SmartPhones are now a major security risk and an extremely attractive target for hackers and would be fraudsters. Just check out YouTube and other online resources and you will find detailed instructions on how to hack into a mobile phone so if you aren’t worried yet, you should be.
We all know that identity fraud is on the increase and most of us go to a lot of trouble to protect our computers so relying on a simple 4 digit code to secure our mobile phone seems outlandishly inappropriate and out of date.
