Sky showing Premier League match in 3D this weekend

Sky 3D TV channel Sky showing Premier League match in 3D this weekend

Sky has just announced that they will be launching their long awaited Sky 3D channel this April, making it Europe’s first dedicated 3D TV channel.

However, forget that for the time being, some people are in for an unexpected 3D treat this weekend.

Sky are broadcasting an introductory live 3D showing of the premier league football match between Arsenal and Manchester this Sunday in nine pubs across the UK.

Each of the nine pubs have been supplied the necessary technology to broadcast the game but the only problem is, we have no idea which pubs are involved as Sky is keeping the exact location of the pubs a secret.

All we know is that they are located in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Dublin. Apparently there’s concern that if word got out the pubs would be inundated with gatecrashers. Sure they would. And yes, it would probably be mayhem.

Nope, Sky says the 3D live show is for pub regulars only.

In April Sky will roll the 3D Channel out to hundreds of other pubs and then later in the year to everyone else with Sky+HD.

As would be expected, Sky 3D will include a variety of content including movies, sports, entertainment and documentaries.

It will work with all Sky+HD boxes provided of course there is a 3D ready TV, oh and you’ll need the special 3D viewing glasses too.

There’s no doubt that geeks and techies and even regular folks are looking forward to enjoying the 3D viewing experience, which we’ve been told will take off in homes this year.

Everyone is talking about 3D at the moment and no wonder, it’s the future and it’s exciting. Look how well Avatar went down when it was shown in 3D in cinemas. We just loved it.

“2010 is the year for 3D TV” said Gerry O’Sullivan, Sky’s director of strategic product development.

“People have already embraced 3D cinema and because Sky’s 3D service uses the same kind of technology, we’re confident there will be demand for sport, movies, concerts and drama in 3D.

“The good news is that all Sky+HD customers already have the set-top box they need to enjoy 3D, meaning they simply need to buy any new 3D TV, all of which will work seamlessly with Sky’s ground breaking new service”

This year the 2010 World Cup will also be filmed in 3D. No how cool is that?
