You know, one of the great things about the big boom in the home computer, the fact that everyone has one these days, is the fact that the people who make the computers and the software are doing everything in their power to make them easier to use. They’re not just for geeks anymore, they’re for your mom, your uncle, and your little sister.
There are still, however, a lot of technical problems that confuse people who are new to the whole PC thing. This is what tech support is for. You can either call a tech support center, or you can actually have an expert come right over to your house and fix the problem for you.
But we want to mention just one thing, for the newer computer users out there… Don’t bother hiring anybody to deal with spam for you. You can do it yourself pretty easily.
All you have to do is type “free spam filter” into Google, hit search, and take your pick.
One of the better free spam filtering services would probably be POPFile. It’s easy to use, it works, and it has a wide database of known emails used by spammers. Another one would be eXpurgate, which works like a dream, but can be a little tricky to configure at first (but you’ll get the hang of it).
Now, as for everyone who’s had a PC for years, you guys should already know better than to be calling the Geek Squad to come all the way out to your house just to install a spam filter!
If you find that the free antispam programs aren’t doing it for you, Barracuda might just well be one of the very best spam killers out there, if not the very best (as their website proudly proclaims).
If you still find the job to be a bit tricky, go ahead and give the tech support guys a call and they’ll walk you through it, but it really shouldn’t be so hard to figure out on your own if you just download and install POPFile. POPFile and eXpurgate both update on a daily basis, they both work very well, and they’re both free.
What you should absolutely not do… is simply ignore the problem. Think of a spam mail like a cockroach. There’s only a few now, but there will be hundreds of them tomorrow. Keep a trust spam killer by your side and fight spam before it gets a foothold.
