Samsung Electronics is no stranger when it comes to mobile phones or to digital cameras and now the South Korean based company is about to release the first ever mobile phone featuring an on board 12 megapixel digital camera.
This news is bound to disappoint their rival Sony Ericsson who has already revealed that they are planning to release a 12 megapixel phone but the Sony version won’t be ready until later on in the year during the fourth quarter.
It is also certain to inflict further damage on the already ailing digital camera industry, which is feeling the impact of more and more mobile phones offering higher resolution in built cameras.

To put it in perspective, a 12 megapixel camera can produce better quality photographs than many of the standard digital cameras on the market today so why would you bother buying a camera when you can have a perfectly good camera on your phone?
The Samsung Pixon 12 is sure to attract a lot of attention as it also features a 3.1 inch touch screen so you can organise your pictures, as well as connectivity options including GRPS, Edge and HSUPA and an expandable memory option up to 16GB.
The boundaries between mobile phones and netbooks have been blurring quite significantly in recent months as companies try to deliver a wide range of consumer experiences in one single device and now Samsung are taking that quite a big step further.
Here we have a mobile device where you can make calls, take high quality pictures and browse the internet with ease and at your leisure.
“The Pixon12 is testament to how Samsung’s ongoing consumer research enables us to develop ground-breaking products that do not just meet but surpass our customers’ expectations,” said J K Shin, head of the mobile communication division at Samsung Electronics.
“Speedy access to the camera mode, fast shutter speed and quick browsing are some of the key factors consumers are looking for in their mobile phone cameras. We are very pleased to introduce the world’s first 12-megapixel camera phone that holds the answer to these pressing needs.”
If you fancy one of these phones come cameras yourself then the Samsung Pixon 12 will be available in Europe from the end of this month.
