Samsung, the South Korean based Electronics giant has announced that it will be demonstrating the world’s first Long Term Evolution (LTE) Netbook computer at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week.
The netbook, which will be a revamped N150 will carry Samsung’s own in house Kalmia chipset and will provide the latest 4G technology.
Although this is exciting news, one of the problems is that the infrastructure capable of running 4G networks isn’t yet widely available but it is coming. In the meantime of course there’s always Wi-Fi and 3G if 4G isn’t available.
“The inclusion of LTE will deliver high speed, low latency and ubiquitous connectivity to all users who require high-volume data access whenever they want and wherever they are” said the press release.
The N150 has a 10.1 inch anti-reflective LED display, will have an integrated Digital LiveCam for video conferencing, as well as an internal microphone and headphone out connection.
“The N150 is the smart choice to meet all your essential mobile computing needs with style,” said Kyu Uhm, Vice President of Samsung IT Solutions Business.
He continued, “We see increasing demand for data services, regardless of whether the consumer is indoors, outside, or even on the move. With our end-to-end Total Solution from core chipset to a variety of devices, we are providing true value to our customers.”
Other Samsung news is that they have recently confirmed that they are going to release a new netbook that will run with Chrome operating system but it won’t ship until much later in the year.
The information came from Samsung’s Phil Newton in an interview but he wasn’t giving much away other than it would be similar to Samsung’s existing netbook the N210.
We don’t know much about the specs of this new netbook but what we can tell you is that if it’s similar to the N210 it’s probably going to be a bog standard netbook as far as hardware is concerned with a 10.1 inch LED display screen.
It’s quite possible though that the new netbook will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, probably with a minimum speed of 1.5 MHz, have 2 GB Ram and carry a minimum of 64 GB of Flash storage. It will also be equipped with Wi-Fi and 3G and have a battery life of around 12 hours.
Yep it’s all happening at Samsung at the moment.
