rant

I’ve been working on a project for over a month now. For the most part everything has gone off without a single snag… until now. I went outside my usual sources for help thinking that I could help a friend of a friend by giving them some work and even paying them for said work. They were all motivated saying “yes I can do that” and “it would only take me a couple hours” … things like that. I believed them and moved on to other things thinking I had someone who could do what they said and that I had no worries and could work on other things. I was wrong. Now I understand why this person can’t hold a job or gets fired all the time from tech companies. They lack focus and can’t stay on target… or they try and reinvent the wheel.

When I have projects that I need done and go for outside help I’m very specific on what I need and how it needs to be done. This is put right out in front before any work begins. I then ask “can you do this the way I want it?” and when someone tells me yes, that should be the end of it. If they have questions, they should ask me. If they have suggestions, they should bring them up to me, not take matters into their own hands and do something I did not authorize, then expect me to pay for additional time they worked on something that is nothing like I wanted or needed them to do.
