Microsoft is teaming up with Pac-Man developer NAMCO-Bandai to host what it’s billing as the world championships for the classic ’80s game which features the yellow, pie-shaped dot-devouring character named Pac-Man.
We must not forget the four ghosts:
- The pink ghost is Speedy, nicknamed “Pinky”.
- The red ghost is Shadow, nicknamed “Blinky”.
- The light blue ghost is Bashful, nicknamed “Inky”.
- The orange ghost is Pokey, nicknamed “Clyde”.
In place of the original arcade machines, tournament entrants will play naturally on Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console and compete with each other over the Xbox Live multiplayer network.
Game play is slated to start on Wednesday April 25th, 2007.
Microsoft is expecting entries from countries and regions around the world, including Canada, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, Japan, Mexico and of course the United States.
Nine players will advance to the finals, to be held June 5, 2007 in New York City where Pac-Man creator Toru Iwatani will be on hand to crown the winner.
The champ will receive a one-of-a-kind Pac-Man embossed version of the Xbox 360, free Quiznos subs (Mmmm… Toasty!) for 26 years and 100,000 Microsoft Points that can be used to download movies, games and other Xbox Live content.
At the same time, Microsoft is holding a Pac-Man Fanatic contest, open to U.S. and Canadian residents who will be encouraged to submit a video showing why they are the ultimate Pac-Man fan.
No word on whether Apple Computer, in response, plans to hold a Space Invaders tournament.

Free Quiznos? That would make those subs actually affordable!
Yep. Free food for days! I think you should enter the contest and share the sandwiches
