Mac fans are in for a serious treat today. Apple has released Mountain Lion, the next big update of Mac OS. Yesterday at the earnings call Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that Mountain Lion will be releasing for the public today. Apart from this revelation, he also gave out the latest numbers of Apple. Tim Cook also revealed that the company has sold over 17 million iPads in the previous quarter alone. Mac OS X Mountain Lion had previously been seeded to developers only after Worldwide Developers Conference 2012 where it was first unveiled. Mountain Lion has over 200 new features, some of which have been borrowed over from the iPad. This new update also borrows heavily from the iOS platform. Mountain Lion has deep social integration as well as improvements for Safari and other native Mac applications. Users now finally have the ability to send and receive iMessages between Macs and iOS devices, a feature which will no doubt be very well received by those who keep in touch via iMessage. Notification Center also makes its way over to Mac OS X. Gatekeeper is also an added functionality which comes for the very first time on Macs.
