Asus, the Taiwan based technology giant just can’t seem to stop surprising us with new and improved products but they’ve really caught our attention this time with the Asus Eee Box 206 that they have unveiled to the world this week.

It is basically an enhanced version of the Eee Box mini computer. There’s no doubt about it though, the improvements make the Eee Box 206 a pretty cool little machine by anyone’s standards.

Even though it’s no thicker than a novel, the Eee Box 206 is packed full of goodies. It comes with an Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz processor, 1GB DD2 RAM, and 160GB Sata hard drive. Asus have also included an ATI Radeon HD3450 graphics card with 256MB of DDR2 memory.

It has Windows XP home edition operating system preinstalled and Eee Cinema media player complete with remote control as well as Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth, and HDMI connectivity. 10 gigabytes of online data storage is also included in the package.

What more could you possibly ask for?

Well something that is definitely worth a mention and which is going to be highly attractive to the greenies is the Eco friendliness of the Eee Box 206. Of course it is made from environmentally friendly materials so is fully compliant with RoHS and WEEE standards, but that’s not all.

It also uses very little energy (consumes only 20 watts) despite the increased video processing power and so not only do you save on your energy bills, you also reduce your carbon footprint at the same time. Even noise pollution is considered as it’s a very quiet machine, so none of that whirring and buzzing that can drive you totally insane.

According to Asus it would be very well suited as either a home entertainment PC or desktop computer in the work place and we can’t even disagree with that. The enhanced multimedia features make it perfect for watching videos at home and as it is such a convenient size and doesn’t use a lot of power it’s bound to be attractive to energy conscious businesses.

As far as designs go, you can have it in plain black, or white with a circle and dots pattern and if the Eee Box 206 takes your fancy, as it has mine, it will cost you a mere £309.99. or $435 approx
