Motion computing has announced the immediate availability of a new rugged Tablet PC which is not only capable of surviving outdoor environments but also has a combined battery life of around 7.5 hours meaning you can work all day without worrying about it dying a death on you.
The J3400 tablet can actually take two batteries, each of which last 3.5 hours but an impressive 7.5 hours when both are fitted.
According to Motion, the all-in-one tablet PC “is the ultimate computing tool for field professionals in service, sales, government and healthcare who need a robust device for indoors, but even more importantly, for outdoors.
“It’s designed for ‘working and walking’, so it won’t replace the ‘bomb-proof’ rugged systems, because these tend to be too heavy,” said Andy Toal, Motion’s regional manager for Northern Europe.
So what they’re saying is that it’s lightweight enough to carry around but still “rugged” enough to cope with outdoor working.
It’s true that many other tablets are just not cut out for outdoor work as they are simply not robust enough and can break easily but this one is different, by the looks of things it really does seem up to the job.
The long battery life is a definite plus for anyone that needs to be away from the workplace for any length of time as all too often the batteries on other tablets just don’t hold out long enough for a day’s work.
So let’s take a look at the specs and see what else we get for our money?
• The J3400 comes with Intel’s Core 2 Duo processors, at 1.4GHz and 1.2GHz, and 2GB or 4GB of memory.
• The 12.1” screen is suitable for varying light conditions and can be read in direct sunlight.
• It has been tested for real world, field-ready conditions.
• For wireless connectivity there is 3G, Bluetooth wireless and the option of WWAN
• It has an Integrated 2.0 megapixel camera
• A Biometric fingerprint reader
• GPS
• Smart card reader
• Natural pen/speech input
• An attachable Keyboard
The J3400 also combines Motion View Anywhere® technology with the Hydis AFFS+ wide screen display. “We believe it’s the best outdoor screen on the market,” said Toal.
Alright so there’s bound to be a catch isn’t there? Well in this case it’s the cost. The J3400 doesn’t come cheap with prices starting at £1,600. Or aprox $ 2240
