Advertisements are supposed to attract our attention right? Well! Microsoft’s online ad for Internet Explorer 8 browser certainly did that. However, instead of appealing to viewers the ad positively disgusted them prompting Microsoft to remove it from the IE8 video channel on YouTube.
The ad, featuring American actor Dean Cain, shows a woman projectile vomiting after seeing her husband’s web browsing history.

Basically the woman asks to borrow her husband’s laptop for a minute but when she sees what he’s been viewing she vomits at the breakfast table. He then slips and falls on what she has brought up and she then vomits directly on him.
Ok so the ad was supposed to be promoting the fact that with IE8 you will be able to remove your viewing history so that your partner, family or anyone else for that matter won’t know where you’ve been browsing, a new InPrivate feature Microsoft has added to the browser.
Surely though, there must be better ways to do this than to project vomit all over the place. The ad was so disgusting that some viewers couldn’t believe that Microsoft had actually made it.
“This must be a fake…Probably made by some Apple crazy fans. This is not made by Microsoft. No way” Said one comment by a user on YouTube
“Bad taste” wrote another “Microsoft, I try to like you, but you make it so hard.”
Some people see it in a different way and even found it fairly humorous “I’d puke too if I was using IE,” said one.
Microsoft claims they meant no harm by the video but have removed it based on feedback from viewers.
“We make a point of listening to our customers,” according to Microsoft. “We created the OMGIGP video as a tongue-in-cheek look at the InPrivate Browsing feature of Internet Explorer 8, using the same irreverent humour that our customers told us they liked about other components of the Internet Explorer 8 marketing campaign. While much of the feedback to this particular piece of creative was positive, some of our customers found it offensive, so we have removed it.”
Even though Microsoft has removed the video from their channel it is still available on YouTube, of course.
You gotta laugh.
