Lenovo U1 Lenovo unveil IdeaPad U1 a cool hybrid notebook

Get ready to be impressed and check out this dual screen notebook by Lenovo that Lenovo were showing off at the CES.

The Lenovo IdeaPad U1 hybrid notebook has a detachable screen and basically gives us two computers rolled into one.

You can quickly and easily switch between a laptop computer to a multi touch slate tablet, how cool is that?

Sounds great to me already and it gets even better. Each ‘device’ on the IdeaPad U1 has its own processor and operating system that work independently of each other as well as together.

By using Lenovo’s switch technology they can also be synchronised to work in harmony and share battery power, 3G wireless as well as documents and data.

Ok so you’ll be wondering how it works. Will if you don’t attach the second screen and keyboard you have a touch tablet running on Lenovo’s Skylight Linux based operating system and a Snapdragon processor.

Then when you have the second screen and the keyboard attached you have a Windows 7 laptop that uses a CULV Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

“The IdeaPad U1 hybrid notebook is a game-changing technology in the PC industry that lets user switch their PC experience within a single device to match their dynamic lifestyle,” said Liu Jun, senior vice president, Idea Product Group, Lenovo.

“By fusing the functionality of a notebook with the slate tablet’s rich multitouch entertainment and mobile Internet experience, U1 provides consumers the freedom to choose the device they prefer for any activity.”

Yep “two brains are better than one” says Lenovo and they’re right. This is an impressive machine.

Apparently you can surf away using the laptop mode and then detach the screen and change to tablet mode and just continue exactly where you left off, although I can’t off the top of my head at the moment think why you would need to do that.

There’s also an integrated video camera and two stereo speakers with built in microphone with echo cancellation.

I love it; you get the best of all worlds. Ok so it’s going to cost us the best part of $1000 for it but I reckon it’s worth it to have the convenience and the functionality offered by the Lenovo U1.

If you’re interested it should be available on June 1st this year.

I for one will be waiting.
