Is The Lenovo S10e Netbook Just Another One Amongst The Masses?

Yes and no! Everyone must have noticed that we are constantly being bombarded with Netbook after Netbook as companies fall over themselves to try to come out with the latest, the best and the most attractive Netbook in order to surf along on the current tidal wave of interest in these ultraportable devices.

The problem is, there isn’t really much to choose from because when we get down to the nitty gritty, they are all so incredibly similar and yes, boring!

Now the Lenovo S10e is really not that different to any other Netbook but it might grab a bit of attention and here’s why.

First of all it has a hybrid storage option with 4GB SSD along with a 160 GB Hard Drive.
Another thing that the Lenovo S10e has going for it is that it apparently loads up in seconds, due to the Lenovo QuickStart, which is a version of Device VM’s Splashtop.

With Splashtop you can surf the Internet, check your emails, chat or use video conference without waiting for your operating system to completely load up, it’s basically classed as “instant on”.

There’s nothing worse than sitting waiting impatiently for your machine to kick into action so that would catch my attention and, this is the first Netbook to offer that experience.

As expected, the specs are nothing to blog about, they rarely are these days, ok so we have the 4GB SDD and the 160 GB storage, the Atom  processor, 1GB RAM, a 10.1” screen with a resolution of 1,024 x 576, so as I said, nothing much worth a mention.

It’s a Netbook so it’s designed to be ultraportable and it is. Its dimensions are 25.0 x 19.6 3.6 cm and it weighs in at one and a quarter kilograms.

As for the overall design, it’s probably the best feature in my book. A lot of Netbooks these days have a cheap and cheerful look about them; as if they’ve been designed with children and teenagers in mind, and let’s face it, a lot of them have.

This one looks a lot classier, particularly with the black matte finish but that could be because a huge chunk of their target market is education and government.

Have to say though, all things considered, it’s a pretty good Netbook really and the price is not bad at all at around $379.
