Introducing SurfShelf, a new geeky gadget for getting fit with your laptop

Have any of you ever had one of those moments when you think you really could do with increasing your fitness levels but somehow you just can’t seem to tear yourself away from your laptop to do it?

Yes, of course you have, I’m sure that applies to most of us laptop lovers. I mean using a laptop is what we do most of the time but it hardly gets the blood pumping does it?

Well help is now at hand in the form of SurfShelf, an ingenious invention from Randy Fenton in the US that will allow us to job and blog at the same time.

Welcome to the new trend of treadputering. If it works it has got to be multitasking and mobile computing at its absolute best.

So what’s the score?

The SurfShelf is a gadget that can be attached to your treadmill or elliptical to secure your laptop right where you want it to be, in front of your face.

No more excuses for piling on the pounds just because you have to work long hours on your laptop.

Ok so you might find it a bit of a challenge typing furiously whilst running at speed but that’s a minor detail really.

Apparently you can type all you like whilst walking but when you want to up the pace a bit why not watch a video instead.

Randy, the guy who invented SurfShelf says he built the original one in his garage out a piece of plywood simply because he wanted to find a way to be entertained whilst he was pounding away on his treadmill.

He had a laptop and a Wi-Fi connection, and he had a bit of wood and a drill, so he put them all together and was so impressed with his new gadget he built a company around it.

Randy says the number of workouts he did tripled with the SurfShelf. He could watch shows, sporting highlights and breaking news whilst increasing his fitness level.

Only problem Randy had left now was to find a way to change web addresses more easily. So he created in-gym dot com which is a way to streamline the process and allow the use of just the arrow keys for navigating between sites. Cool!

So what do you think, will treadputering become the new in thing for geeks?
