One of the best things about Windows is that it is basically considered the default operating system. With Windows, you’re probably going to find your PC to be either compatible with every piece of software you need, or at least compatible with a close approximation of that software.
So of course, there are definitely some great antivirus programs out there for your Microsoft computer, in fact, so many that it’s probably going to be hard to sort through them all to find one you like.
So bearing all of that in mind, read on below , and you’ll find some info on a few of the antivirus programs that are available for Windows.
McAfee Security Center
The thing about McAfee Security Center is that it’s much more than simply a virus killer. It is, in the fullest sense of the term, a full on, all encompassing computer security center. It will cover you on all fronts, from spam, to popups, to viruses, to Trojans, to identity theft.
There are dozens of similar programs out there, that cover every front, but McAfee sets itself apart, and is, therefore, a more popular program than most, simply because it’s so good at what it does. It receives constant, daily updates, it’s easy to use, and at fifty dollars, it’s not a bad deal for a full protection package, whereas some lesser packages might cost you as much as a hundred dollars.
Avira AntiVir
Without a doubt, this has got to be the very best free antivirus software available. It receives updates sometimes more than once a day, and it’s easy to use. It doesn’t eat up too much memory on your computer, and it works like a charm.
There are other, more high profile free virus scanners available, but few of them have the power, the ease of use, and the constant updates of Avira AntiVir.
Windows Live OneCare safety scanner
Microsoft’s Window Live OneCare safety scanner will get the job done, but it’s not one of the most popular antivirus programs for a few reasons. For starters, there is no download or installation, you have to visit their website for a free scan every now and then… until your first ninety days are up, and then you’ll have to start paying. It’s not a bad program, but subscribing to a website to take care of viruses is more hassle than most people would like to deal with.
