ICQ 6 Released

I’ve been meaning to post about this for the past week and noticed this evening I had it in draft mode, so without further delay… ICQ 6 has finally been released.

For those of you not familiar with ICQ, it’s a nifty Instant Messaging program that provides users with an innovative communication experience and enables quick and simple interaction among users across all communication platforms.

I’ve been kicking the tires of this new version of ICQ for a few days now and I’m really enjoying the completely redesigned UI along with the fresh new look and feel.

Some of the new features with ICQ 6 include:

  • Quick IM–enabling users to send messages to contacts without opening a message window.
  • Easy access simple navigation between incoming messages.
  • Tabbed conversations–management of all active conversations in one message window by using tabs.
  • History–new and improved search history of messages, files, and calls.
  • Search capabilities–advanced and easy-to-use search through contacts, on ICQ, and on the web.

ICQ invented instant messaging as we know it today. Not to many people remember that but I sure do as I’ve been using ICQ since 1997.

Poking around ICQ’s website, I found a funny flash cartoon on the history of Instant Messaging and how it all began. Take a look when you get the chance.
