Avira AntiVir already has a pretty massive database of known viruses and so on, but it gets another update at least once every single day. This means that, if a virus is discovered, your antivirus program is going to know about it. It’s simply a very hard program for a virus to sneak past.
Avast! Home Edition
When you go to avast.com, you’ll find that they’re really pushing the business and office versions of Avast, but don’t bother with those. All you really need is the free home edition. It’s pretty powerful stuff, and is a little more in-depth and complete of a package than you usually expect of a free antivirus program.
