There is a new Elitebook on its way from HP, this time it is a fourteen inch version going under the model name of 8470w. Basically, what we are looking at here is a mobile workstation and as such, you would think that this would be destined for the business user more than anyone else. The Elitebook 8470w is packed with features such as the i7 Intel processor and the Intel QM77 chipset, but there are more options too that will allow the buyer to almost build their own machine personal to the job that they need it to do. Of course, that will be reflected in the final price, but to start off with, the Elitebook 8470w will be priced at around $1,800.
So what does this new Elitebook 8470w have one offer? It might be better to take a look at the base model, it has a 14 inch wide screen TFT colour LCD HD + LED back light display with a 1600 × 900 of pixel resolutions, and there is no web camera available here. The base model is powered by the Intel Core i7-3610QM processor with a 2.3 GHz to 3.3 GHz clock speed, it supports the Intel Smart Cache 6 MB Mobile, Intel QM77 Express chipset and its graphics come from the AMD FirePro M2000 (1 GB of GDDR5) graphics card.
The memory starts with a 4 GB (4GB × 1) 1600 MHz of DDR3-SDRAM up to a 16 GB Max, while there is a 500 GB hard disk drive (HDD) with 7,200 rpm Serial ATA, feature support SMART & HP 3D Drive Guard support and there is a 24 GB solid state drive (SSD) for disk cache. There is the usual built-in Intel 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection offering 1000BASE-T – 100Base-TX – 10Base-T, with a Bluetooth 4.0 + EDR and the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 (IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n WLAN Wi-Fi.
Other features in the two fast connecting USB 3.0 ports, a single standard USB 2.0 port, the eSATA / USB 2.0 combo port, external display port via the Analog RGB Mini D-sub15 pin and it is running on the Genuine Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1. Size wise the laptop measures 338 mm (W) × 231.3 mm (D) × 31.8 mm (H) and weighs in at 2.4 kilos with the Lithium-ion HP3 (6 cell, 55WHr) battery installed that offers up to 4.6 hours of power according to HP.
The Elitebook 8470w goes on sale in Japan in couple of weeks time with a starting price at around $1,800, there is no news as to when this laptop will go on sale in other markets yet.
