A lot of this is going to be common sense but surprisingly, many people still pay no attention whatsoever to the correct handling and care of their laptop and before they know it they find that their laptop is damaged, scratched, keys are sticking and it doesn’t perform as well as it did or even worse, the laptop dies and death and stops functioning altogether.
Transporting your laptop
If you need to transport your laptop anywhere at all, which you are probably going to have to do at some point if not every day, then a laptop bag or case is an essential accessory to protect it from accidental bumps and bashes.
Many laptop makers also produce matching bags and laptop wallets but if not or they don’t appeal to you then there are literally hundreds of styles and colours and materials on the market to choose from.
You might prefer a laptop with carrying handles or shoulder straps might be your thing. If you have to carry around other items too like papers and folders for example, you can find laptop bags with extra pockets designed for this purpose. If you are travelling a lot then there are trolley cases available which can double up as over night bags.
Whatever, you will need some sort of protective covering when transporting your laptop outside the home.
Cleaning your laptop
Keeping your laptop clean and dust free is essential if you want to prolong its life and keep it functioning as well as it should.
One golden rule is never to use normal household detergents and cloths on your laptop screen as they will harm the delicate surface of the screen. If you purchase dedicated cleaning solutions that are designed specifically for laptop screens then you won’t go far wrong.
If you really must use a cloth and a cleaning solution from the home then you can use a bit of material that is made from cotton dipped in a solution of half distilled water and half isopropyl alcohol, but absolutely nothing else and remember to handle it gently. Do not touch the screen with your fingers if at all possible and never use kitchen roll or tissue paper as this can scratch the screen.
When cleaning your keyboard, avoid the temptation to get out the vacuum and attack your laptop with it. This might seem like a good idea but it can seriously damage the sensitive components inside your laptop.
One of the best things you can use for cleaning the dust out of your laptop is compressed air.
