We don’t mean to simply say “Just ignore laptop sales”, but unless you have a sharp eye and you know exactly what you’re after, well, just go ahead and ignore laptop sales!
The fact is, there’s usually a good reason for a laptop going on sale. Think about it from a retailer’s perspective. Say, nobody is buying “Brand X” laptops. Brand X makes computers that blow up if you rear end them, and what’s more, their CEO always votes for the least popular political candidates! Simply put, Brand X isn’t popular, so you’ve got about two hundred Brand X laptops in your stock room, and you need to get rid of them, fast, to make room for those new Acme brand laptops everyone’s talking about. So what do you do? You have a sale! All crummy laptops are half off! Get them before Brand X recalls them because they’re covered in lead based paint!
It’s not impossible to get a great laptop on sale, but it’s a lot easier to get stuck with a lemon. So here are a few tips to making sure you get something for your hard earned money.
Do your Research!
Here’s the best way to know whether or not the laptops on sale are any good: Check the sale out, see what’s up for grabs, and then go home and do an internet search. Read reviews on the available rigs and make sure you’re getting a real deal before you put any money down. You might just get a great rig for half the money it’s worth.
Settle for Less, and then Upgrade
If one of the computer’s turns out to be almost what you want, but not quite perfect… stop being so picky! If you can land a twelve hundred dollar laptop for six hundred, do it, even if it’s lacking in a few areas. You can take that six hundred you saved and upgrade it into the kind of machine you’d be willing to pay a couple grand for.
Don’t be Lured by Low Prices
Just because it’s cheap doesn’t mean it’s a deal. Whatever you do, don’t just pounce on anything that’s affordable. Keep the above tips in mind, make sure you’re getting what you want, and then go ahead and make your pick. It’s not too hard to get a great laptop for cheap, but you have to know what you’re doing, so don’t cut any corners. Do the research, upgrade, and don’t get fooled.
