How to get a Clean Laptop Screen

Every now and then, your laptop screen is going to get a little grungy from regular use, and you’re going to have to clean it. Common sense might dictate you just grab some window cleaner and a paper towel and spray and wipe away.

Stop!

Unfortunately, laptop screens tend to be a little more delicate than a countertop or a plate glass window. Unless your laptop has a thick sheet of glass protecting the screen, you’re going to need to take a few extra measures to ensure that you don’t scratch or damage the surface.

Below, we’ll list the basic method for how to clean laptop screens.

How to Clean a Laptop Screen

Step One

Instead of a window cleaner or anything like that, you’ll want to get some isopropyl alcohol and some distilled or purified water. You can use tap water, but it often contains trace amounts of chlorine and fluoride, which aren’t good for a laptop screen.

Don’t use rubbing alcohol, either. Rubbing alcohol often contains oil, which might leave a greasy residue, defeating the purpose of cleaning your laptop screen in the first place.

Mix these two in a small bottle at about 50/50. Use a spray bottle with the finest mist you can get. However, do not spray this directly on the screen…

Step two

Take a cotton cloth, such as a t-shirt you never wear, and spray the solution onto the cloth. Rags and paper towels tend to20leave scratches.

Wipe the cloth against the sreen using circular motions. Apply even pressure, but do not push or press your fingers against the surface.

Step three

Turn your laptop on and admire your clean laptop screen. Or, rather, look for spots you may have missed.

If you have missed a spot or two, always turn your laptop off, unplug it and remove the battery pack before you try to clean the screen. It’s very possible to damage the sensitive LCD display if you clean it while it is on.

If you’ve followed the above steps, you should have a nice, clean laptop screen. You probably won’t have to do this more than once a month or so.

Some Tips

You may be able to save a little money by buying the isopropyl alcohol and distilled water in the same bottle. Check CD and DVD cleaning fluids, or if you have eyeglasses and use a cleaner on them. Read the label; if it has a roughly isopropyl to distilled water ratio of 50/50, it should be able to get the job done.

Wipe off any excess solution with the dry part of the cloth. Don’t let it drip into your keyboard, whatever you do!

Tap water often leaves mineral spots all over the surface of the screen, so use tap water to get a clean laptop screen at your own peril.

If you can get a lint free microfiber cloth, these can clean a laptop screen without any risk of scratching or getting lint in the keyboard.

And Finally , just make sure you dont do it like this
