Now and again we come across a gadget that really is worth having, either for the functionality it offers, or sometimes just for the sheer ‘cool’ factor it carries.
So how about a dowsing rod for detecting Wi-Fi, where would that fit in and would you ever want one?
First of all dowsing is an ancient art which involves using a simple stick to detect the presence of water, or precious metals or even minerals and gem stones. So although it is a little unusual, I suppose it’s not so far fetched to use a dowsing rod to detect Wi-Fi.
I’ve also got to admit, combining the most basic technology entrenched in the past with some of the most sophisticated up to date technology available today is an interesting idea in itself, but I still have to ask why bother?
“Today’s technology advances at such a speed that often consumers are left in awe of it all,” Mike Thompson or ‘Miket’, the dowsing rod designer told LikeCool.com.
True, and yet some of the technology used thousands of years ago seems pretty awesome to me too so nothing new there.
“The high tech terminology, the ultra small, ultra portable, metallic or white devices we carry around with us are, to the vast amount of consumers, simply baffling. The Wi-Fi Dowsing Rod aims to work against this” says Miket.
I don’t get it. Just because some of the technology today is “baffling” I can’t see why a dowsing rod would help demystify technology or be any the less confusing. In fact even the very concept of dowsing is pretty baffling for many people.
“By basing the design for a wireless internet detector on century’s old technology, the user feels immediately at home with the product, whilst feeling less intimidated by the simple shape and natural materials.”
Not so sure I’d be completely at home wandering around my streets and venturing in and out of coffee shops with a laptop in one hand and a dowsing rod in the other, I would undoubtedly get myself some strange looks.
I mean laptops are pretty good at detecting Wi-Fi without the need for a dowsing rod are they not? You just flick the switch and hit connect.
Still, I can’t help but like it. If nothing else, the very idea of possessing a dowsing rod for detecting Wi-Fi is kinda cool in a geeky sort of way.
