In doing some research this afternoon on GPS for an upcoming project, I came across an interesting story:
Southern California gang banger ex-cons being fitted with GPS devices as conditions of parole.
Looking into the story a little more I found out that the pilot program, funded by the state of California, began in San Bernardino in April 2006.
According to news reports, the idea was to keep them off former gang turf.
However, a string of robberies Wednesday July 25, 2007 prompted San Bernardino law enforcement agents to search the database of GPS locations against the time of the crimes and found that one of the robbers was a GPS-wearing banger on parole.
It’s time to cue up the song “Bad Boys” by Inner Circle.
Apparently you don’t need to pass an IQ test to join a gang. Who knew?
