I know from various friends that since early January 2006 YouTube has had informal talks with a number of companies about acquisition in the $1.5 - $2 billion range.
If Google purchased YouTube, it could expand Google Video into a site visited by millions daily. That would be some marketshare.
It might also make sense to purchase YouTube, where more than 100 million videos are viewed daily, because opportunities for growing Google’s community, advertising and sales channel becomes much larger.
So what do you think about a possible Google acquisition of YouTube?
Well if the stock market is any indicator, shares of Google rose on the rumor report, rising from $410.22 to finish the week at $420.50.

With Google Video & YouTube being the most popular services out there… and Google’s huge bank balance, they could be unstoppable
I’m curious to know what Google will name YouTube after the acquisition.
Will it be GooTube?
Hello again Thilak.
If they end up aquiring YouTube, they would most likely keep the name and say it’s powered by Google.
If they want to use the name GooTube, they’ll need to purchase the domain name from someone else who’s owned it since 2005.
