On April 12, 1961, Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin became the first human to travel into space in Vostok 3KA-2 and today Google pays tribute to him with a spiffy Google logo:

During his flight, Gagarin famously whistled the tune “The Motherland Hears, The Motherland Knows”.
The first two lines of the song are:
The Motherland hears, the Motherland knows / Where her son flies in the sky.
Here’s an interesting fun fact, tonight is “Yuri’s Night” which is an international celebration held on April 12 every year to commemorate the first human in space and the first space shuttle launch.
If weather permits, remember this evening to look up into the night sky and pay a personal tribute to Yuri and his amazing accomplishment from over 40+ years ago.
It’s amazing how far we’ve come in space exploration since then… and to think, there’s now a rumor floating around (hehe) that Microsoft Founder Bill Gates will be the next American to visit the International Space Station.
