When summer hits, outdoor parties are a great idea: it’s warm, it’s – usually – dry, and it means you can spread out and not worry too much about spilling your beer. But what do you do when the sun sets and things get a little vague? Switch on your glowing, outdoor furniture, of course.
The outdoor range of multi-colored glowing furniture – and no, we’re not making this up – is the brainchild of retailer Frontgate and is designed to make your garden a more exciting place to be after dark.
As seen over on Unpluggd, each piece in the range is fully waterproof – and scratch, scuff, and impact-proof as well, because we know how wild your parties can get – and designed with integrated long-life LED bulbs which can be activated at the flick of a switch when the sun dips past the horizon. Although they’re a trifle dim – especially when compared to traditional incandescent bulbs – the lights inside this furniture range aren’t designed to offer something you can read by, but rather something to inject a bit of style into your midnight garden parties while offering the useful side-effect of making it less likely that you’ll trip and fall into the pool if the moon goes behind a cloud.
The low-power lighting effect is powered by four D-cell batteries – or, optionally, an AC adapter which plugs into the mains. Although the units themselves are fully sealed against water ingress, there’s no mention of how save the AC adapter unit is – so you may want to bring that inside if it starts to rain. Frontgate hasn’t mentioned how long a set of batteries will last, however – so you may want to pack spares if you’re planning a long one.
Each piece in the range – of which there are chairs, stools, and even a table – is available in blue, green, red, or classic white – but be prepared for a shock when you see the pricing. Available now at Frontgate’s online store, the cheapest piece – the stool – will set you back a not-inconsiderable $199 while the most expensive item – the table or chair, which are evenly matched in price – will cost you a whopping $399.
Still, if you’re looking for something to differentiate your garden – and frequently find yourself out after dark – you could do a lot worse; but it would be nice if Frontgate offered a solar-panel version for a bit of environmental concern.
